Home Education Review: Sense of deep despondency.

Posted by: mum6kids on: July 2, 2009

You will remember that the actual CONSULTATION about home education is going on at the moment and as the closing date for this is the 19th October 2009 you would be forgiven for thinking that the vast array of draconian anti-family recommendations in Badman’s report would be on hold until such time as the results of the Consultation were in. You would be wrong. Carlotta has links HERE and HEREwhich show how monitoring home educated children-coming into our homes uninvited (normally called trespass) is being pushed through.

I’ve got to say I feel deeply despondent about the whole thing now. I am particularly concerned about the plight of Christian home educators who I believed right at the beginning of this process would be the first offered up to the Government. Sadly I think I am being proved right. Some home educators have the nerve to criticise Badman for his narrow mindedness and anti-home ed view while feeling quite relaxed in their own bigotry. Catholics in this country know all to well how this Government can behave towards us! Playing into their hands is simply ridiculous-it won’t save anyone.

Meanwhile Dawn Primarolo is the new children’s minister who apparently doesn’t have a remit for home edded children and only asked the views of ‘professionals’ working with children and not parents or children themselves. *sigh*. It has apparently come as somewhat of a surprise I think that parents might want her to ask the Govt to step away from our families.  Even though there was no evidence forthcoming of a link between home ed and abuse it seems we come under Delyth Morgan (she who made false allegations in the first place) whose remit is NOT children but those who are at risk of abuse!

Lord Lucas had offered some support but HIS PROPOSED AMENDMENT (311) simply suggests yet another Government appointed quango. I realise Lord Lucas felt there should be a group who can stand as a buffer between us and the jack boots but I can’t quite see how this is it. I suspect he was frustrated by the lack of trust we all displayed over Education Otherwise and although I sympathise with his view-because the Government only recognises power in numbers and can’t simply respect people-a quango hardly seems the answer. Can’t honestly see what this is supposed to achieve.

The introduction of forced sex ed on little ones in school is going head. You have a chance to speak out HERE. Don’t take the ‘Oh well I home ed’ view. We need to stand with other parents if for no other reason than this will come to us too. I do not doubt for one minute that a curriculum will be forced on us.

I wish I felt more upbeat about this. I will keep fighting for my children-but I can see this will be a nasty fight.

There was no mention of home education in the DCSF press release nor in the speach Ed Balls give to parliament over the white paper for education.I have been told that we have a better idea in september when Queen speach is given and this should then let us know if DCSF/Ed Balls are going to attempt to push these anti family laws though Iwas also told by a conservtive member that the time frame to get any new laws though for home education is very tight and more than likely that the government will not have enough time to push it though it will have to go to the lords and an election is going to be held in May! and before this we have 2 by elections which labour will lose and if it is by a lot this will cause panic in the back benchers who want to hold on to as many labour seats as possible.so I BELIVE WE CAN BE UPBEAT cost will also come into this to set up a register council will need more staff then you got the checking of the register and the extra paperwork along with the so called home visits councils will need a lot more staff and i do not belive the money is there to spend on a group of home educators who the Council often see as awkward! we also know how slow councils are at seting things up and as the conserstive member told me yesterday it just a report by some guy who worked in Kent so what! so we got plenty to be up beat about i just do not belive the council could put all of this into place that easy how much would it cost? extra staff wages when every one is cutting back! the council can not cope with work there got now claiming not enough staff!

That’s true Peter and Carol and I really want to think the same way you do. I am fortunate that we live under a fairly good ‘regime’ here with an EWO who is very pro-home ed and doesn’t seem to feel the need to force his personal views onto us.
I never was all that political before this. Can’t wait to see the back of this Government -but I do worry that the next one will not be too pro-home ed either. There’s a rather remarkable silence from David Cameron don’t you think?

David Cameron has to be queit to some degree over education because he want to keep the labour party guessing about tory education plans but of course i like him to be more vocal on this matter i was told by tory member that the party supports home education does not see the need as such for new laws but is worried about the extreme case of a child being abused and may appove a register of home educators! it is still forming it thoughts on home education bearing in mind it is not a vote winner ie not enough peopel home educate to make it top of its list! which is a good thing because it would not go to the top of tory list of thing to do the tory feeling os to leave things as there are but it is tempted by the register!

glad to hear you have a fairly good regime where you live and an understanding EWO but do not be fooled by one person have you ever seen what has been wrote about you by this EWO because there do send sly emails to each other saying all sorts of things about the family and the only way you can some times get hold of them is to put in a data request that often reveals what your LA thinks of you!

We do not live in a good area for home education where a number of officers EWO do belive there have a right to attempt to force there views on how you should home educate! of course we take NO notice of them!

glad to hear it has made you be more poliical thanks to Ed He be cross about that! Ed Balls prefers the voter to be unaware of what is going on!

It be ok do not worry just keep on going with the brilllent way you are educating your children you have some nice pictures of your children like the science picture and the one with the ducks! have you taught your children to play chess?
